What effect does gentrification have on our neighborhoods?
Gentrification occurs when communities are in a state of deterioration and it helps enable the flow of income within the society to be continuous while inhabitants do move out, people who are able to afford the newer changes are able to experience long term benefits. In exchange for better economic growth and societal living conditions, is the price of the community's cultural roots and historic originality.
The Bad: The effects are a trail of unrecognisable businesses replaced with the modern outlook of gentrification. Even so, when gentrification is at its peak, you will see the sad for sale signs of old inhabitants. Places that you used to play as a kid and run free like a horse, replaced by private property buildings for the wealthy only. According to gentrification if you can't pay you can't stay.
The Good: My dad used to live in Eastern Parkway and my grandmother owned the apartment building he lived in. My grandma sold the apartment at a time where all the apartments within the community were being sold and refurbished. Passing by there now I see most of the stores I grew up with out of business and the buildings looking more glamorous.
